Since Magneto's departure in issue 11, Lee and Kirby have introduced the Juggernaut and now the Sentinels so one can imagine why the duo felt that they had to sweep Magneto under the rug for a bit.

With the Sentinels, Lee changes the dynamic of the X-Men forever in a way that he probably never foresaw: he made mutants viewed by the general public as a menace. Before the Angel was mobbed by girls wanting a kiss now everyone thinks that mutants want to take over the Earth.

Before Trask's announcment that turns people against mutants, we get to see the X-Men taking a break. It's great to remember that these are teenagers who are dealing with some pretty messed up emotional stuff that all teens have to endure plus dealing with super baddies like the Juggernaut. Besides you've got to love any X-Men where Manyard G. Crebbs-style beat poets make a cameo.
